The College was established in the year 1413 H with the name, Dawadmi Health Institute under the General Directorate of Health Institutes and Colleges of the Ministry of Health (MOH). In 1428 H, the Institute was elevated to become a College of Health. During this period, Diploma courses like Nursing and Public Health were offered. On 22/12/1429 H, Royal Decree No. 11032 provided the transfer of jurisdiction of the health colleges from MOH to the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE). As a result, the College became part of King Saud University (KSU). Under the care of KSU, the College began to grant the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) Degree. Heralded as a milestone, Royal Decree No. 7305 dated 09/03/1430 H established Shaqra University through the kindness of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah. In the academic year 1430/1431 H, the former College of Health Sciences became the College of Applied Medical Sciences. The newly invigorated College began to offer other specialties like Bachelor of Science in Clinical Laboratory Science aside from Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
