Professor Khaled F. M. Salem, Ph.D. in Plant Breeding and Genetics, is a professor of field crop biotechnology affiliated with the Department of Biology, Shaqra University, Saudi Arabia and the Department of Plant Biotechnology, University of Sadat City, Egypt. Prof. Dr. Khaled F. M. Salem is a university professor and researcher with over thirty years of expertise in strategic field crop breeding, genomics, and genomic-assisted breeding. He has worked in Egypt, Germany, and Saudi Arabia, and has visited numerous international institutions in China, Spain, Italy, Mexico, and Germany. Currently, he is a lecturer at Shaqra University in Saudi Arabia and Sadat City University in Egypt. Prof. Khaled Salem's research focuses on plant breeding and genetic enhancement using traditional approaches, developing genomic resources, cataloging genetic diversity and genotypes, pre-breeding, trait discovery, genomic-assisted breeding, and seed systems. He received B. Sc. in Agriculture Science (Crop Science) with Excellent with a grade of honor in 1993 from the University of Menoufiya and then M. Sc. in Crop Science (Plant Breeding) focused on rice breeding from Menoufiya University in 1998, and a Ph.D. in Plant Breeding and Genetics in 2004 from Martin Luther University, Halle-Wittenberg, Germany. The Ph.D. project was conducted at The Leibniz Institute of Plant Genetics and Crop Plant Research (IPK) -Gatersleben, Germany. He was a visiting scientist in the Genebank Department, Leibniz-Institut Für Pflanzengenetik Und Kulturpflanzenforschung (IPK), Germany for four years. Also, he was a visiting scientist/Professor in China, Italy, Spain, and CIMMYT, Mexico. He is a reviewer in more than 20 and an editor and Board Member of several high-ranking journals. His publications are more than 65 in peer-reviewed national and international journals, book chapters, and conference proceedings, and invited speakers and acted as a chairperson in several international conferences worldwide. Currently, his research interests are to discover genes/QTL mapping, GWAS in addition to genomic prediction, somatic embryogenesis, genetic engineering, and biotechnology mainly in field crops, and genetic improvement, genetic diversity, erosion, conservation, and utilization in the context of abiotic stress. He teaches plant biotechnology, breeding, genetics and other courses for under and post-graduate students. He also was involved in mentoring and supervising master’s and Ph.D. students.
