Mechanical engineering is a major branch of engineering that combines physics, principles of mathematics and engineering materials science, to design, manufacture, assemble, operate, develop and maintain mechanical systems, engines, and machines. It is one of the oldest and broadest branches of engineering.
Mechanical engineering majors require an understanding of the basic engineering sciences including kinematics, dynamics, thermodynamics, materials science, electrical principles, and structural analysis. In addition to using the necessary advanced engineering tools such as Computer-Aided Design (CAD) and Computer-Aided Manufacturing (CAM), product recycling management, data science and artificial intelligence to design manufacturing plants, equipment, industrial machinery, heating and cooling systems, transportation systems, aircraft, ships, robots, medical devices, military equipment, etc.
The mechanical engineering department provides two main tracks for BSc students:
1. Manufacturing and Production Engineering Track
2. Thermal and Power Engineering Track
To achieve the national and international competition, the department places among its priorities that its students obtain a high-quality education that includes basic and specialized engineering sciences necessary for a mechanical engineer to compete in the industry. The department also seeks to provide its students with the necessary skills for creativity and innovation to graduate highly qualified engineers to keep pace with the rapid changes in the engineering field.
