This course explores the basic concepts and steps in the scientific research process. The research approaches and their implication to nursing are discussed. Methods of data collection, sampling and how to choose them are also addressed the course also provides nursing students with competencies necessary to read, evaluate, and interpret findings of nursing research studies .

Course objectives

Understand the nature and scope of research in nursing practice

Understand and be able to implement the methods used in answering questions that arise out of nursing practice

Critically appraise the nursing literature

Develop an enthusiasm for doing your own research; and

Gain some practical experience in doing research project
