This course provides a survey of romantic poetry from its development to its current achievements and trends. The course focuses on the work of key romantic poets. A close critical reading of William Blake’s, William Wordsworth’s, T.S. Coleridge’s, Percy B. Shelley’s, John Keats’ works in addition to a selection of poems written by female poets allows students to understand each poem on its own terms, to place it in the context of each writer's full body of work, and, finally, to see in it reflections of the major themes of romantic poetry.
