Graduate Attributes (GAs) |
Empowering Future Civil Engineers
At Shaqra University/College of Engineering, our Civil Engineering program is committed to developing the full potential of our students, equipping them with a robust set of attributes that prepare them for professional success and leadership in their field. Our graduates emerge as professionals who are not only technically proficient but also socially responsible, innovative, and globally aware. Below are the attributes that we instill in our students:
GA1: Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the fundamentals and theories of science, engineering, and mathematics and advanced specialized knowledge in one of the Civil Engineering tracks.
GA2: Having the skills of innovation, creative and critical thinking that enable student to follow systematic ways for analyzing and finding innovative solutions of complex and unexpected engineering problems in the reality of the surrounding environment.
GA3: Having the attribute of lifelong learning to keep up with the latest developments in the field of specialization, as well as to use modern digital technologies and applications to analyze and process data and information.
GA4: Working effectively either individually or in groups, with the ability to lead work teams flexibly and effectively and having the skills of listening and communicating effectively.
GA5: Commitment to professional ethics that are compatible with societal and cultural values, participation in finding valuable solutions to some societal issues, and a commitment to responsible citizenship.
Alignment with Program Learning Outcomes (PLOs):
Our graduate attributes are mapped directly to our PLOs, which define the knowledge, skills, and attitudes students should possess upon completion of the program. This alignment ensures that our curriculum, pedagogy, and assessment strategies are targeted toward these outcomes, creating a transparent and focused path for student achievement.

Measuring Graduate Attributes:
Assessment of graduate attributes is embedded throughout our curriculum. We use a variety of tools and methods to measure these attributes, including:
Direct Assessments: via PLOs that include senior design projects, exams and performance in internships or co-operative education placements, which provide tangible evidence of student competence.
Indirect Assessments: Surveys: Exit Survey, Alumni Survey, and Employer Survey that help us gauge the perceived preparedness and satisfaction of our students and graduates.
Continuous Improvement: Data from assessments are regularly reviewed to inform curriculum improvements, ensuring our program remains responsive to the evolving demands of the civil engineering field.
Rubric for Graduate Attributes:
We have developed a comprehensive rubric that defines clear performance indicators for each attribute at various levels of proficiency. This rubric is used by faculty and external reviewers to assess student work and provide feedback.
