Since its establishment, Shaqra University has been committed to growth and aligning its educational outcomes with labor market demands, in line with the developments and goals of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030.
The Medical Laboratory Sciences specialization is considered one of the key contributors to Vision 2030’s objectives related to health and the healthcare system.
The Department of Medical Laboratory Sciences at the College of Applied Medical Sciences in Shaqra also plays a vital role in supporting the university’s future development goals.
The department was founded in 1431 AH and has since offered a general bachelor’s program in medical laboratory sciences for both male and female students. Over the years, many graduates have gone on to work in distinguished government, specialized, and private hospitals across the Kingdom, as well as in other sectors such as companies and research institutes.
In addition to its academic role, the department aims to provide a supportive learning environment that helps produce highly qualified medical laboratory professionals equipped with essential skills.

The department also fulfills a social role by engaging with the community through participation in various events, involving faculty members and students with government entities such as schools and public venues.
The department currently serves over 200 students and is supported by more than 20 faculty members who oversee their education and training. Currently, the department provides the following services:
· A four-year general bachelor’s program in medical laboratory sciences, followed by a one-year internship
· A two-year bridging program in Medical Laboratory Sciences
· A two-year master’s program in medical laboratory sciences
The department continues to develop and introduce new programs that support labor market needs and align with the strategic directions of the university and the Kingdom.
